To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Provides technical leadership in all Electrical Engineering aspects within project teams, particularly in design, development, and troubleshooting of digital control systems and microcontroller based embedded systems.

  • Designs parts of prototype systems for new products/processes.

  • Performs engineering measurements and analysis.

  • Works with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, function generators, etc.

  • Instructs technical support staff on engineering test and build requirements.

  • Supervises and assigns laboratory technician tasks and projects as required.

  • Prepares cost and time estimates for engineering schedules.

  • Executes according to project priorities, schedules, and plans

  • Develops specifications, reports, and other engineering documentation for components, systems, and new products

  • Work with outside design firms for outsourced projects.

  • Writes engineering test protocols for testing of component parts and integrated systems.

  • Participates in team decision making.

  • Prepares presentations for various team and company meetings.

  • Assures compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures and policies.

  • Demonstrates strong knowledge and understanding of GMPs and all other applicable standards, including IEC 60601 electrical safety/EMC for medical devices.

  • Stays informed about applicable new rules, regulations, and standards.


The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required for the position.

  • Education: Required: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Preferred: Master’s degree or above

  • Experience: Required:5-7 years experience developing integrated systems electronics with a focus on design and troubleshooting of digital control systems and microcontroller based embedded systems. Preferred: Experience in medical device development, project development project management responsibility, and IEC 60601 Electrical safety/EMC standards compliance.


  • Strong knowledge of digital control systems

  • Knowledge of engineering change order system.

  • Knowledge of engineering documentation, including engineering test protocols.

  • Knowledge of Product Development Process (PDP).

  • Proficiency with development tools (e.g. OrCad) used by the department.

  • Knowledge of engineering laboratory procedures.

  • Knowledge of Purchasing Department requirements

  • Knowledge of RA/QA procedures

  • Skills in personal computer spreadsheet, word processor and engineering tools.

  • Ability to carry out engineering calculations and analysis.

  • Ability to write engineering documents, test protocols, laboratory notebook entries and reports.

  • Ability to perform component engineering designs and changes.

  • Ability to operate light machine tools and laboratory instruments.

  • Ability to interpret displayed results on laboratory instruments.
